Not many models can parlay their often short-lived runway careers into massive retail empires, but Kathy Ireland has successfully blazed the trail. As of last year, according to Forbes, she was the world's richest model.
But first, a little backstory: The California native rose to fame by starring in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue starting in 1984, and would appear in the magazine 13 years in a row.
In 1993, Ireland started designing a line of socks for Kmart. They were such a hit, she was given a full clothing line. Ireland's stable of products also includes furniture, inspirational books, jewelry and other accessories.
She also maintained her own enviable style. As the supermodel turns 50 on March 20th, we're taking a look back at her best fashion moments.
