Oscars Date Set: 2014 Academy Awards Will Happen On March 2

The Oscars 2014 date has been set. According to Variety, the 86th annual Academy Awards will happen on March 2, 2014.

The 2013 Oscars ceremony occurred on Feb. 24 of this year.

The 2014 Academy Awards were forced to a later date because of the Winter Olympics. The 2014 Winter Games are set to run from Feb. 7, 2014 through Feb. 23, 2014. Add in the fact that 2014 Super Bowl will kickoff on Feb. 2, 2014 and the Grammys moved its ceremony to Jan. 26, 2014, and the Academy Awards had no choice but to push into March. (Deadline.com's Pete Hammond suggested the March 2 date earlier this month.)

Handing out the Academy Awards in March is far from unprecedented. From 1943 through 2003, the Oscars exclusively happened in either March or April. The last two March ceremonies occurred in 2006 (the 78th annual Academy Awards) and 2010 (the 82nd annual Academy Awards).

In a press release received by HuffPost Entertainment, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences also announced that the 2015 Oscars will happen on Feb. 22, 2015.
