Sean Patrick Maloney, Openly Gay Congressman: 'Our Family Should Be Equal To Everybody Else's' (VIDEO)

Openly gay Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-N.Y.) appeared on MSNBC's "The Daily Rundown" Tuesday morning and commented on the gay marriage cases before the Supreme Court this week.

"My partner and I have been together for 20 years," Maloney said. "We think that our family should be equal to everybody else's."

Maloney is the first openly gay representative from New York. He was elected in November and is serving his first term. There are six openly gay members of the 113th Congress.

"As a member of Congress, if I'm not treated equally, what chance do the thousands and thousands of families stand who aren't members of Congress," Maloney said.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case of California's Proposition 8 gay marriage ban. On Wednesday, the justices will consider the federal Defense of Marriage Act.
