Shopping for an engagement ring at a big jewelry store can be a stressful experience. In fact, more than two-thirds of Americans surveyed recently by New York University sociologist Anna Akbari said the ring shopping experience did not meet their needs.
One online diamond ring company Ocappi.com recently launched a "Home Try-On" program in an effort to take the stress out of the big purchase. The program allows shoppers to order up to six sterling silver and cubic zirconia "replica" rings to view at home for free for five days. Couples can then return the replicas and purchase a real diamond ring. The actual rings cost between $5k and $45k.
Another jewelry company, Tacori, allows customers to virtually try on rings by downloading an image of the ring, then using a webcam to see how it looks on their fingers.
If you want your fiance to choose her own engagement ring, or you just want a little extra time to make your decision, selecting a ring at home could be an ingenious solution. Tell us: would you ever considering using a home try-on service?
