Who says brunch has to be burdensome? If you've got a pack of flour tortillas and a few minutes to spare, you can create a simple morning meal with very little effort. In this clip, "Mexican Mama" Gloria Santillana walks you through her easy brunch recipe for buñuelos and café con leche.
Begin by assembling six ingredients: tortillas, cinnamon powder, sugar, sunflower oil, instant coffee and milk.
As Santillana demonstrates in the video, making the buñeulos is an easy process. First, she mixes some cinnamon and sugar together in a bowl and sets it aside. Then, she heats sunflower oil in a skillet. While it heats up, the Mexican Mama shares one of her secrets for making buñuelos: pre-heat the tortillas by placing them directly on a low-heat flame from a gas stove. Then, she places the warm tortilla into the oil as it bubbles and browns. After about 20 seconds, she removes the now-crispy tortilla, places it on a dish and sprinkles it with the cinnamon-sugar mix.
Making café con leche is just as simple. First, Santillana pours milk into a saucepan on low heat, estimating roughly one cup per person. Next, she adds instant coffee (1 or 2 tsp. per cup, depending how strong you like it) and stirs gently. The sugar (about 2 tsp.) follows. Then, Santillana uses a whisk to make the mixture foamy, and the six-ingredient brunch is complete.
