Marc Jacobs Turns 50: A Look Back At The Designer Before He Was An Icon (PHOTO)

Recognize This Famous Designer?

If you know one name in fashion, it's Marc Jacobs. The American designer took the industry by storm when he was only a teenager (he was the the youngest designer to have ever been awarded the Council of Fashion Designers of America's Perry Ellis Award for "New Fashion Talent"). Jacobs has since become the head designer for his two namesake lines, along with French luxury brand Louis Vuitton. His shows are always the most anticipated of fashion week and it seems as though everything he touches turns to gold.

In celebration of his 50th birthday (on April 9), we are taking a look back at a vintage photo of the designer. In this 1990 photograph, Jacobs is seen at a club in New York City. His hair was much longer than it is now, and his style is a little less polished. Now he favors three-piece suits and fitted T-shirts as opposed to oversized coats and sneakers. But if there was any doubt that this is the designer himself, the cigarette in his hand is confirmation.
