'The Originals' Pilot: Klaus Is Hungry For Power In 'Vampire Diaries' Spinoff Promo (VIDEO)

'I Want To Be King!'

The CW is just days away from airing the "Originals" pilot, but you can get a first look above.

The "Vampire Diaries" spinoff -- set to air as a backdoor pilot on Thursday, April 25 at 8 p.m. ET -- sees Klaus (Joseph Morgan) head to New Orleans and connect with his protégé Marcel (Charles Michael Davis). At the end of the most recent episode of "The Vampire Diaries," Klaus received a letter from Katherine (Nina Dobrev), which explained that there was a witch in the Big Easy plotting against him. Never one to go down without a fight, Klaus of course heads to New Orleans, as you can see in The CW preview above, set to Fall Out Boy's "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light 'Em Up)."

"Welcome to the dark side of New Orleans, where the living are easily lost and the dead stick around to play," a mysterious man tells Klaus in the promo.

"For once, Klaus is the one which things are happening to, as opposed to him being the cause of things. So it's really interesting to put him at the center of the story like that," Daniel Gilles, who plays Klaus' brother Elijah, told Entertainment Weekly. "He's in unfamiliar territory, other people are telling him what's going on, and he's following the clues and following what heart he has through the story.''

When Klaus realizes that his mentee Marcel has "everything [he's] ever wanted" -- power, loyalty and family -- he's not just happy for him. "It starts with them being very pleased to see each other, and then Klaus isn't very happy about how well Marcel is doing,'' Morgan told EW. ''There's an element of envy that comes in." Considering the promo for the "Originals" pilot ends with Klaus explaining, "I want what he has. I want it back. I want to be king," it seems like envy is a big element.

But Klaus is not alone in his efforts to go back to how things were. ''What [Elijah] sees in New Orleans, and what he finds out in the context of a place where they were once happy as a family, is an opportunity to rebuild that with Klaus and with Rebekah [Claire Holt] and put the broken bits of the Original family back together," executive producer Julie Plec told EW.

Watch the promo for the "Originals" pilot above for a sneak peek at Cami (Leah Pipes), Sophie (Daniella Pineda), the returns of Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and Katherine, and much more!

The "Originals" pilot airs on Thursday, April 25 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
