TNT has renewed "Dallas" for a third season.
Although last season saw the death of Larry Hagman (J.R. Ewing) and struggled in the ratings -- Season 2 averaged 2.6 million viewers -- the network said itw as excited for another season of drama at Ewing Energies.
"'Dallas' has built a passionately loyal following with its expertly woven storylines, clever twists and turns, and numerous outstanding performances by a cast that spans generations," Michael Wright, president and head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM), said in a statement. "Although we said goodbye to Larry Hagman and his iconic character J.R. Ewing this year, 'Dallas' has many more stories left to tell, and the Ewing clan will continue to honor J.R.'s memory by keeping its audience surprised and delighted."
Josh Henderson (John Ross) tweeted about the renewal on Tuesday.
A revival of the long-running '80s nighttime soap, "Dallas" centers on the wealthy Ewing family and their power struggle in the oil and cattle industries. The series stars Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, Josh Henderson, Jesse Metcalfe and more.
"I'm optimistic about a Season 3, but only based on the fact that I don't believe that the directors, writers and actors and that every other person involved in making 'Dallas' could make a better television show called 'Dallas,'" Duffy, who plays Bobby Ewing, told TV Guide earlier in April. "I think writing for the last episode of this show is one of the best executions of a cliff-hanger in the history of 'Dallas.'"
"Dallas" Season 3 will be 15 episodes and is slated to premiere in early 2014.
