Summer in San Francisco inevitably means two things: shivering tourists complaining about "sunny" California and the Stern Grove Festival.
In the over 75 years since Rosalie Stern donated her family's Eucalyptus grove to the city of San Francisco (on the condition that the natural amphitheater be used to host free music, dance and theater performances), the festival has continually provided residents of the Bay Area with that very thing.
Announced in a video posted on YouTube on Monday, the lineup for the 2013 season is as diverse and idiosyncratic as anything the festival has hosted in years.
In addition to the perennial performances by the San Francisco Symphony, Opera and Ballet, this year's festival will feature yacht rocker Michael McDonald, Bay Area mainstay Boz Scaggs, classical superstars the Kronos Quartet, rising San Francisco indie rock sensation Geographer and a rare live showing by sci-fi hip hop supergroup Deltron 3030.
