Nearly Half Of Americans Went To McDonald's In March And Sales Still Fell

Nearly Half Of America Went To McDonald's In March

McDonald's continues to be the most visited retail business in America, but it's not all golden arches and happy meals for the fast food restaurant.

Forty-nine percent of Americans over the age of 14 went to McDonald's in March, according to a study by the analytics firm Placed Insights. The world's largest restaurant chain beat out Walmart, Walgreens and CVS for the top spot. Placed's findings are based on data from more than 70,000 customers who volunteered to share where they went over the course of a month.

Despite catering to such a significant customer base, McDonald's sales are down. In April, the fast food chain reported its first quarterly sales decline in a decade as the famed Dollar Menu failed to boost its numbers.

McDonald's could not immediately be reached for comment.

Burger King, which was visited by roughly one in four Americans in March according to the survey, saw declining same-store sales in the first quarter of 2013.
