Cinco de Mayo isn't Mexico's version of Fourth of July (that comes in September) -- or an excuse to guzzle tequila. Instead, it's a commemoration of the Battle of Puebla, where in 1862 Mexican forces were victorious against troops, a celebration of heritage and pride that is celebrated by Mexican-American communities in the United States. And there's no reason not to get in on the action.
Now, with that history lesson out of the way, check out this weekend of parties, dancing and more going on around Metro Detroit. From running to Mexican history, veggie-friendly soul records to art showings (and yes, plenty of parties that are sure to get a little loco), we've compiled a helpful list of events that are happening around town this weekend. Enjoy!
