A judge has ordered a fundraising firm in Long Island to halt operations after scamming donors into giving nearly $10 million towards a bogus cancer charity.
The Daily News reports the Coalition Against Breast Cancer, managed by firm Campaign Center Inc., raised $10 million between 2005 and 2011, but pocketed 85 cents for every dollar made.
Only $48,000 of the funds raised went towards research. The CABC paid for just 40 women to receive mammograms.
In 2011, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman filed a lawsuit against both the CABC and Campaign Center Inc.
