Powerball Jackpot Soars... Again!

The Powerball jackpot has climbed to $222 million in advance of tonight's drawing. Although no one matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawing, three lucky ticket holders in New York, California and Maryland each won $1 million by picking five winning numbers.

There have been several Powerball drawings with jackpots in the hundred of millions of dollars recently. In March, a former bodega owner won the fourth-largest jackpot in the multi-state lottery's history, raking in a $338 million prize. However, as NBC News noted, at least $29,000 of the New Jersey man's winnings would go toward his unpaid child support.

Two winning tickets split the largest Powerball jackpot ever --- $587.5 million -- in November 2012. The Missouri couple that had purchased one of the lucky tickets famously reinvested part of the prize in their community. Mark and Cindy Hill used a portion of their lump-sum winnings after taxes to fund the construction of a ball field and a new fire station, and they even earmarked $50,000 toward the construction of a new sewage treatment plant.
