'Revenge' Finale: A Character's Death Isn't As Shocking As A Later Reveal (VIDEO)

'Revenge' Finale: Death And A Shocking Reveal

While the death of a principal character in a season finale is always a game-changer, it was a confession on "Revenge" that will turn a big part of the show on its head next season. The two-hour finale spent much of its focus on Conrad's election win.

It was a win somewhat tainted by the fact that he blew up his own campaign headquarters, in an attempt to kill Jack Porter. Unfortunately, though he probably doesn't care much about collateral damage, it was Declan who was there. He was looking for Charlotte, having recently learned that she was pregnant. Declan was seriously injured in the explosion, and died later at the hospital. What is with this show killing off one parent of every new baby?

Conrad also revealed to Victoria that there is no Initiative, at least not in the sense she thinks. The Graysons aren't victim to the machinations of the Initiative. Conrad is an active member and participant in all of the scheming.

The big reveal, though, came at the end. Distraught over the death of his brother, Jack was ready to assassinate Conrad at his acceptance rally. Emily stopped him and then dropped a bombshell he was in no way emotionally prepared to handle. "Deep down inside, you’ve always known the truth," she said. "I’m Amanda Clarke."

Calling it "the finale's best shocker," E! Online reacted to the reveal with one word: "Gah!" HitFix speculated about how this might affect the show, doubting that Emily would bring Jack in on her revenge plot. "Jack may be just as fired up with rage toward the Graysons as she is, but his lack of experience and his hotheaded behavior would seem to make him more of a liability than a help in Emily's master plan," they wrote.
