The 5-foot-long fish reportedly weighed in at 103 pounds, nearly 5 pounds heavier than the previous world record holder.

Eisele said he was on a Norwegian fishing trip when he "got a bite", according to the Daily Mail.

"I saw two red dots on the sonar-screen and it looked like a big one," Eisele said. "It took me more than half an hour to get the fish up. When we saw the fish my knees was starting shaking. It was so big."

The Telegraph reports that the International Game Fishing Association must certify the fish's weight before it can be officially declared the world's largest cod.

Andrew Crook, treasurer of the National Federation of Fish Friers, told the paper that Eisele's catch could provide the fish portion of 200 fish and chip dinners.
