Barbie's Dreamhouse Would Be Hella Expensive If It Were Real (PHOTOS)

You Couldn't Afford Barbie's Dreamhouse If It Were, You Know, Real

Barbie's Dreamhouse figured prominently in my youth. To be honest, it was a constant on my wishlist, but my parents deemed it too expensive to buy for a five-year-old girl. My mom was right (of course); I grew out of playing with dolls and that plastic palace would have just gathered dust.

It seems that Barbie has grown out of her house, too -- she is upgrading her home. The 8,500-square-foot beachfront Malibu pad, recently valued at $25 million (the value was determined by the design firm that is undertaking the remodel, so take that figure with a grain of salt), will be renovated by famed fashion designer Roksanda Ilincic.

This isn't the first time that Barbie has made changes to her abode: The house has undergone 10 transformations since it was originally created in 1962 as a cardboard home for the famous doll. The original was classic '60s -- square, modular furniture decorated the doll's house. In 1974, Barbie struck it rich -- girlfriend moved into a three-story mansion complete with an elevator. The excess of the '90s was reflected in her "Magical Mansion" which came complete with a ringing phone (wonder if she had call waiting?) and doorbell.

Check out her home as it has changed through the decades:
