Robert Gibbs said Monday that he does not read New York Times columnist Maureen Down because she has written "the same column for the last, like, eight years."

The former Obama press secretary made the comment on "Morning Joe" when co-host Mika Brzezinski introduced Dowd's most recent piece about Obama, and asked him if he had seen it.

"I don’t normally read Maureen," Gibbs said. When the hosts expressed their skepticism, he said, "I don’t, largely because it’s sort of largely the same column for the last, like, eight years."

After Brzezinski read an excerpt of the piece aloud, Scarborough asked Gibbs, "So, is that the same Maureen Dowd column you’ve been reading for eight years?"

"More or less, yes," Gibbs replied, laughing.
