Wife Douses Husband With Beer After He Leaps To Protect Her During Cubs Game (VIDEO)

WATCH: Angry Wife Throws Beer In Husband's Face At Ball Game

A baseball fan got a little more than he bargained for on Sunday when he leapt to protect his wife from a home run ball at the Chicago Cubs game and ended up with a face full of beer.

The hilarious episode occurred in the fifth inning, according to Yahoo! Sports. Chicago Cubs pitcher Travis Wood hit a home run to the Wrigley Field bleachers in left field. As the ball whizzed toward the couple, the husband jumped to try to deflect it but knocked into his wife's drink.

In an act of split-second retaliation, the wife then doused her heroic hubby with the rest of the brew.

The home run gave the Cubs a 2-0 lead, but people watching at home may have been more interested in the spontaneous beer bath, which was caught on live television

MLB.com was able to track down the pair, who seemed to be in high spirits, despite the misunderstanding.

"I was trying to protect my lovely wife, Ellen," the unidentified man told MLB.com.

"I just got livid and took my beer and splooshed it in his face," the wife replied, laughing. "Because I figured if I'm wet, he might as well be wet, too!"

The pair added that they immediately started getting texts from friends who saw them on television.
