Peace, love and happiness.

That was the mantra during Memorial Day weekend for Topanga Canyon residents celebrating its annual Topanga Days Country Fair.

"It's like going back to the 1960s," said Mimi Williams, managing coordinator for Topanga Days. "Everyone's free, loose and having a good time. "

The 40th annual Topanga Days Country Fair continued Sunday on 12 acres atop Topanga Canyon overlooking the San Fernando Valley. It started out as a modest strawberry festival but evolved largest bohemian bash in Southern California and the longest running event of its kind in Los Angeles, Williams said.

The three-day festival during Memorial Day weekend attracts an estimated 2,000 people a day from all over Los Angeles including Topanga's celebrity residents from Andy Dick to Emile Hirsch, Rick Schroeder, Viggo Mortensen and others.

"I've been looking forward to this all year," said actress Missi Pyle, who volunteered for the fair.

Aside from the live music, food and activities for all ages from potato sack races to egg toss games and a pie eating contest, Pyle said the fair is just a great escape.

"You don't feel like you're even in Los Angeles, which is what's so great about Topanga," she said.

Topanga Days concludes today and will feature its annual parade with actress and Topanga resident Cloris Leachman as Queen of the Parade.

"It's a trip. All the crazies come out of the woodwork," said Topanga Canyon resident Justin Loveless. "But that's what's so awesome about Topanga. "
