The season premiere of "Melissa & Joey" was a tense one, as Joey (Joey Lawrence) felt he didn’t have much of a purpose in the house anymore now that the kids are self-sufficient.
Melissa (Melissa Joan Hart) wasn’t happy when Joey suggested it was time for him to move on to another job.
“This is about you and me. It’s pretty obvious. I’ve felt it for a long time, too,” Joey said.“You don’t think I can get another job.”
But it turns out Joey will keep working for Melissa, as Ryder (Nick Robinson) needs a tutor after getting suspended from school for smoking pot.
“I just figured, what’s the harm in trying it?” Ryder pointed out.
“So your judgment was worse before you smoked pot?” Melissa asked.
While Mel and Joe’s relationship may not be smooth sailing, the show itself is. ABC Family has already ordered a fourth season of "Melissa & Joey," which is a hit in its timeslot.
As the A.V. Club notes, "Melissa & Joey" proves that the more classic form of a sitcom can still work, especially among family audiences.
"Melissa & Joey" airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC Family.
