For the sixth day, protesters have taken to the streets of Istanbul to voice their disapproval of the government, even after Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc apologized for the heavy-handed response by the Turkish police. The past week has seen a flood of stunning images emerge from Turkey, as photographers captured demonstrators fleeing from gales of tear gas and water cannon blasts and responding with makeshift masks and outstretched arms.

In recent days, crowds have flowed in and out of Istanbul's Taksim Square, waving Turkish flags and signs. The protests even managed to bridge Istanbul's notoriously rabid soccer rivalries, with supporters of competing teams Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe uniting in opposition to the growing authoritarianism of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
