Chicago is poised to become the second-most competitive U.S. city by 2025, and it will rank ninth worldwide in terms of its ability to attract capital, talent, businesses and people, according to a study released yesterday.

Along with New York, which is projected to replace Singapore as the most competitive urban area in the world, Chicago is the only other U.S. city in the top 10 among 120 global cities studied by the London-based Economist Intelligence Unit in a report commissioned by Citigroup Inc. London came in second, followed by Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Sydney, Paris and Stockholm.
