'Hannibal': Lecter Wants To Be Friends With Will

As Will slips deeper and deeper into his madness, "Hannibal" is becoming stranger and stranger. But while Will was horrified about what is happening to him, Dr. Lecter was positively delighted.

He admitted in a session with his own therapist, Bedelia, that he was drawn to Will's madness. It was beyond patient and doctor for Hannibal. He found himself wanting to be friends with Will. Or perhaps, he thought of Will more as a plaything. He had just manipulated Will into killing copycat killer Gideon, more or less.

“Where Will Graham is concerned, if you feel the impulse to step forward, you must force yourself to take a step back," Bedelia advised Hannibal.

“And just watch him lose his mind?” Hannibal asked.

“Sometimes all we can do is watch," she replied, but was she talking about Will or Hannibal -- or perhaps both?

Buddy TV found the whole exchange crazy, while SheKnows thought it was sweet Hannibal wanted to get closer to Will, but "Hannibal would make the scariest friend imaginable.”

The first season of "Hannibal" is winding down, Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
