Shep Smith Zings NSA Surveillance Program (VIDEO)

Shep Smith: 'I Knew Privacy Was Dead'

ZING! Shep Smith had maybe our favorite response to the National Security Agency's sweeping surveillance program so far on Friday.

"I've gotten to where I write little notes to Eric Holder at the bottom of my emails," the Fox News anchor told Chris Wallace on air. "But now I guess I'll just pick up the phone now and then and say, 'What up?'"

"I knew privacy was dead and now it’s confirmed!" he later added. Turning to viewers, he said, "Fox News can now confirm — there's no more privacy, it’s over. So whatever you wear around the bedroom, just figure everyone is looking at you.”

Smith was referring to the Guardian's bombshell report on Wednesday, which revealed that the NSA has been secretly collecting the phone records of millions of Verizon customers. It is the latest controversy the Obama administration, which has already been under fire for the IRS' targeting of conservative groups and the Department of Justice's investigations into the Associated Press and Fox News reporter James Rosen.

Attorney General Holder signed off on a search warrant for Rosen's personal email account, which named the reporter as a "co-conspirator" in a leaks investigation.
