Ann Curry Covering Nelson Mandela For NBC News

Ann Curry's Next Big Assignment

Ann Curry is going to South Africa to report on Nelson Mandela's health, the New York Post reported Wednesday.

The former "Today" host is now a correspondent and anchor-at-large for NBC News. Since leaving the morning show last year, she has contributed to the network's coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings, landed an interview with Libyan president Mohammed Magarief and filled in for Brian Williams on "Nightly News."

Mandela, who is 94 years old, was hospitalized over the weekend for a recurring lung infection. He is in "serious but stable" condition, the Associated Press reported. He has been in and out of the hospital for respiratory problems in recent months.

The network reported Wednesday that "Nelson Mandela is responding to treatment; family is optimistic and relaxed about his progress, NBC News has learned."
