The next time you decide to go shopping for your home or complete a renovation project, you may want to take a cue from Patrick and Renee Dubois. This California couple has nearly built their entire home using only American-made products.
The inspiration for building the 3,444-square-foot New Castle house with American goods came from seeing Diane Sawyer's "Made In America" series. From big things like solar panels to small items like nails, 98% of the abode's materials are sourced domestically. "It's remarkable how much the quality is better by using American products," Renee told KCRA news.
The couple did run into problems when it came to appliances and fixtures -- 40% of those are outsourced. For instance, the Dubois told CBS they had to go with smoke detectors from overseas because they were $49 cheaper. They do intend however, to decorate the home with furniture that only has labels that read "made in the USA."
