Juice Press: We Tasted Their Raw Juices

We never thought we'd be able to have sweet potato pie on a cleanse.

Here at HuffPost Taste, we do a lot of taste tests. We've eaten and imbibed way too much for our own good, but every once in a while we find a product that we missed. We found the latest at The Third Metric conference, where we got to sip on bottles of juice from Juice Press. This brand wasn't included when we conducted our juice cleanse taste test a while back, so of course, away we go to taste-test-land.

First, a little background. Juice Press makes 100-percent raw, unpasteurized juices (and they sell raw foods, too) and claim they've "designed the best juice cleanse system on the planet." So what makes it so great? Their juice is made on the slowest machines that produce the least amount of juice that's commercially acceptable, meaning you'll get more nutrients than you may from other juices.

They've also got two different cleanse plans: The classic 6-bottle cleanse, and also an 8-bottle cleanse for people with higher levels of activity or calorie burn. The flavors are different than most that we've tasted in other cleanses: Sweet Potato Pie, Perfect Pear and Tomato Gazpacho all sound like a pleasant derivation from the clear-green-orange-green-clear-almond formula to which we've become so accustomed.

A few of our favorites among Juice Press's selection:

Sweet Potato Pie: "I would drink a whole bottle of that." "Refreshing and feels like it would be filling."

Spicy Citrus: "It's basically spicy lemonade." "Oh my god I love it, it's so weird." "Love the ginger and grapefruit." "The cayenne is really nice in there."

Watermelon: "DELICIOUS. I love it." "It's amazing in every way." "It's just the perfect thing all by itself."

Lucky Seven: (Beets, carrots, pear, orange, pineapple, ginger, lemon.) "Not too sweet, doesn't have too much ginger." "This is a really great combination." "I like it. Winner."

Advanced Berry Blend: "This is like a really great smoothie." "Love the subtle sweetness." "Tastes like a freshly made smoothie."

Ginger Fireball: "I imagine this would feel so good on a sore throat." "SO much fire from the ginger. The name is perfect."

Juice Press has nine locations in New York, but they also ship nationwide. Check out JuicePress.com for full pricing information.
