Brian Dickerson: How Supreme Court Ruling Could Doom Michigan's Gay Marriage Ban | Detroit Free Press


Nothing the U.S. Supreme Court does Wednesday is likely to provide any immediate relief to April DeBoer and Jayne Rowse, two Michigan women who have been legally stymied in their ambition to marry and adopt each other's children.

But when the justices finally issue decisions in two long-simmering same-sex marriage cases Wednesday morning, no one will be scrutinizing their words more closely than U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman, who is expected to decide sometime this summer whether Michigan can lawfully bar the two Hazel Park nurses from realizing their dream of a family.
