Cameron Diaz In 'Annie' As Miss Hannigan; Actress Wins Role Previously Eyed For Sandra Bullock

Replacing Sandra Bullock

It's a hard-knock life for Cameron Diaz. According to Deadline.com, Diaz will star as Miss Hannigan in the upcoming remake of the hit musical "Annie." The role was previously eyed for Sandra Bullock.

Due for release on Dec. 25, 2014, "Annie" stars Quvenzhane Wallis as the title little orphan and Jamie Foxx as Benjamin Stacks, a take on the famed character Daddy Warbucks. Will Gluck ("Easy A") is set to direct "Annie," with Will Smith and Jay-Z acting as producers.

By virtue of her age, Diaz, 40, will play a younger version of Miss Hannigan than fans are used to seeing. Carol Burnett was 49 when she played the role in 1982's "Annie"; actresses Kathy Bates and Jane Lynch were, respectively, 51 and 52 when they played Miss Hannigan in television and stage productions of the musical.

Miss Hannigan, of course, sings "Little Girls" in "Annie," a popular track that Lynch performed on this year's Tony Awards. Fingers crossed Diaz does a better job than this:
