If there were any doubts about the power of music, Calle 13 is proving skeptics wrong.
The Puerto Rican duo have long been known for their politically infused lyrics and in recognition for their “No To Bullets” campaign, the Action on Armed Violence (AOAV) organization has named the band among the 100 Most Influential People In Armed Violence Reduction.
In November 2012, in collaboration with UNICEF, Calle 13 released the music video “La Bala” (The Bullet) that lyrically and visually manifests the global increase of gun violence, while lamenting the dearth of resources worldwide. A team of 12 directors in 10 different countries helped create the video, with the motif of one deadly bullet spanning the entire globe.

"The song ‘the Bullet’ comes from the pain I feel when I see how some people devalue life," frontman René "Residente” Pérez said in a press release at the time.
In the past, the AOAV has recognized figures like Jimmy Carter, The Dalai Lama, Juanes, Gabrielle Giffords, and more for being “outstanding examples of those trying to change the world for the better.”
Recently, “Residente” also made headlines for a collaborative songwriting session with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange against media manipulation and censorship. The duo are currently working on their fifth album expected to be released in the fall.
