Steve Grand, Gay Country Singer, Talks Ex-Gay Therapy And Viral 'All-American Boy' Fame

WATCH: Viral Video Hunk Reveals His Ex-Gay Therapy Past

The hunky gay singer-songwriter whose music video made him an overnight sensation is revealing a painful past.

Steve Grand, whose country-tinged power ballad "All-American Boy" has received more than 400,000 views since its release last week, now tells ABC that he attended reparative, or "ex-gay," therapy shortly after coming out to his family.

"I felt like I really was a shame to my parents," he says. "I felt like there was no way I could ever make them proud."

Grand, 22, goes on to note that he wrote "All-American Boy" from "the purest, most genuine place in my soul," adding that "It's not about being gay; it's about that longing for someone."
