Wendy Davis Coming To Washington For Fundraisers

Wendy Davis Coming To Washington

WASHINGTON -- Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis (D) will be in the nation's capital next week, raising money with Democratic U.S. senators.

Davis will hold two fundraisers on July 25, according to invitations shared with The Huffington Post. The first will be a breakfast costing $500 per person at the popular fundraising spot Johnny's Half Shell. Special guests will include Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Al Franken (D-Minn.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.).

The second, lower-dollar event, will be a happy hour at the bar Local 16, with tickets ranging from $25 to $250.

Davis has become a national progressive star since she staged an 11-hour filibuster in the Texas legislature last month to kill a bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R), however, called the legislature back for a special session and last week, the Republican majority passed the bill -- despite thousands of protesters thronging the statehouse in opposition.

In the second-half of June following her high-profile filibuster, Davis raised nearly $1 million.

Many supporters have been pushing Davis to run for governor in 2014.

"Of course it forces a second look, but I am not taking that look right now," she recently told NBC News. "Right now, I'm working to try to be very strategic, and a member of the team that has to work very hard in the next few weeks to defeat this bill."
