This biker just became our new hero. Last Monday, Steve Hunter saved a dog's life -- by giving him mouth-to-snout resuscitation.
After Hunter witnessed Salty, a Fox Terrier-Jack Russell, get clipped by an oncoming car in Ballarat, Australia, he wasn't sure what the dog's chances were, the Ballarat Courier reported. Nevertheless, he brought Salty to the side of the road and administered CPR.
“I gave him CPR, did the whole works. I pulled his jaws apart, and by the way he didn’t brush his teeth,” Hunter, who rides a Harley Davidson, told the paper. “I thought, ‘You’ve gotta give him half a chance,' because you never know.”
Hunter told 3AW radio that he'd been trained in CPR -- on people, of course.
Luckily, 5-year-old Salty, came to long enough for Hunter to take him to a local vet. He suffered only a few cuts and a fractured pelvis. His family, including 8-year-old Archie Maule and 5-year-old Jamie Maule, are thankful their pet is alive.
“When I saw him lying there I thought he was gone," their father, Jock Maule said to Hunter when the Courier notified the family. "Mate, you’re a friggin’ hero."
