DOOMED

As the population has grown, more and more of the earth has been profoundly changed by human activity. In 2003, Conservation International published a book called Wilderness: Earth's Last Wild Places, identifying 37 large areas where at least 70 percent of the land remained intact. In the 10 years that have passed since the book was published, conservation efforts have resulted in many successes, some failures, and lessons for the future.
