1950s Home Had 42 Exhausting Rules, "Approved Toilet Tissues," Warned Of "Shrinkage" (PHOTO)

Those of us who love vintage homes know that they often require a bit more upkeep than new construction. Whether it's tending to ancient heating systems or restoring hardwood flooring, there's certainly a price to pay for extra character.

But what if you found out that your home came with an instruction manual with 42 rules on its upkeep? We came upon such a guide while doing our daily Flickr time wasting/image hunting.

Our favorite rule has to be #10, which requires one to open every window in every room daily. Honorable mentions go out to rules #1 and #17, which warn against overzealous heating (which leads to "excessive shrinkage") and inferior toilet papers, respectively.

Fun fact: The homeowner originally found this manual behind some insulation in his garage. Let's hope his predecessors were up on their maintenance.
