- Typhoon Soulik ravaged parts of China, causing landslides and flash flooding that left almost 300 people dead or missing.
- Lighting strikes injured four people near the Grand Canyon, and another dozen in Colorado and Montana.
- An incredible heat wave struck the entire country, creating highs in the 90s in a majority of states before mellowing out near the end of the week.
