Fiona Apple's 'Hot Knife' Video Finds Singer Collaborating With Ex-Boyfriend Paul Thomas Anderson Again

Why They're Back Together

Paul Thomas Anderson and Fiona Apple have gotten back together ... for Apple's new music video "Hot Knife," the latest from her 2012 album "The Idler Wheel." Anderson directed the clip.

The acclaimed director responsible for "Boogie Nights" and "There Will Be Blood" who now has three children with Maya Rudolph, but he dated Apple in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The director helmed several Apple videos throughout that time, including "Across the Universe," "Fast As You Can" and "Paper Bag." The newest collaboration marks their first since 2000.

The stylish new video offers split-screen depictions of an impassioned Apple drumming the song's tribal undertones while accompanying silhouettes showcase the vocals. The song, which closes the 10-track album, features Apple's singer Maude Maggart.
