Anthony Weiner certainly did well when he married Huma Abedin.

The 36-year-old wife to the embattled mayoral candidate for New York City has penned an essay for Harper's Bazaar in which she defends her husband, saying he has become a "better man" since the 2011 Twitter scandal that forced him to resign from Congress.

The essay, set to hit newsstands in August, was written before a gossip site on Tuesday published sexually explicit messages Weiner allegedly sent to a 22-year-old woman last summer. In the piece, Abedin explains why Weiner deserves a shot at Gracie Mansion:

Because Anthony has always been a smart, caring, and dedicated person, and while he’s the same public servant who wants what’s best for the people he represents, he is now something else—a better man.

Abedin, an adviser to Hilary Clinton, goes on to say that no one is more "surprised" than her that she is helping Weiner campaign. She also wrote that having a baby with Weiner has made her and her husband "view the world differently."

On Tuesday, gossip site The Dirty alleged that Weiner engaged in a six-month online relationship with an anonymous 22-year-old woman, sent her photos of his penis and promised her a job at Politico and a condo in Chicago, where the two could meet to have sex. Weiner allegedly used the name "Carlos Danger" in his correspondence with the woman.

Weiner held a press conference the same day, with Abedin at his side, where he said that the latest "sexting" occurred after his 2011 resignation from Congress. At the meeting, Weiner apologized but refused to drop out of the mayoral race.

Abedin spoke publicly Tuesday for the first time about the scandals, saying that the matter was between her and husband.

"I love him, I have forgiven him, I believe in him and as we have said from the beginning, we are moving forward," she added.

BuzzFeed claims to have identified Weiner's latest Internet girlfriend as Sydney Elaine Leathers, a Democrat from Indiana. The outlet linked several of her online profiles to blurred images from The Dirty and spoke with an anonymous source who has known Leathers since high school who confirmed Leathers and Weiner had an online relationship last July.
