Smithsonian Latino Museum Depends On Swift Action From Congress


Supporters of the creation of the Smithsonian American Latino Museum on the Washington Mall want what is so hard to get in Congress: Swift passage of a piece of legislation.

Their’s would designate a home for the National Museum of the American Latino.

Later this month, the museum’s friends and a group of bipartisan congressional leaders will gather in Washington to make that push formally and also unveil the winning design for the proposed museum.

“The creation of a Smithsonian American Latino Museum will ensure Latino heritage and culture will be rightfully honored, thoroughly preserved, and comprehensively researched for these future generations of Latinos,” a press release says, noting that Latino high school graduates now have surpassed white peers with 7 in 10 Latinos enrolling in college in 2012.
