Woman Shoots At Car Backing Up In Driveway: Cops

No one will accuse Margie Rhea Ramey of showing Southern hospitality.

Instead, the 72-year-old is accused of shooting multiple times at a family attempting to back up in the driveway of her home in Hawkins County, Tenn., according to MemphisRap.com.

The incident happened Sunday when Oscar Scott, his wife and five kids were on their way home to Virginia after vacationing in Kingsport, Tenn., and got lost.

The road was narrow and he was forced to back up the Chevy Tahoe in Ramey's driveway, which had a "no trespassing" sign.

During that split-second turnaround, a woman later identified as Ramey allegedly started shooting her .22 caliber rifle at the car from her porch.

“I hadn’t even begun to turn my wheels to pull in her driveway,” Scott told the Kingsport Times-News. “I just put my vehicle in reverse, and just as quickly as I put it in reverse I heard her hollering and my little boy said, ‘does she got a gun’. About that time she started shooting.”

Scott said one bullet hit the the running board on the passenger side of his car, just a few feet from where his five children, ages 4-12, were sitting, WBIR-TV reported.

Police say Ramey admitted firing the shots to and claimed she had a problem with people tearing up her driveway, msnNOW reported.

Police had a problem with the gunplay, and arrested Ramey on seven counts of felony reckless endangerment.
