Scott Rigell Calls To Cancel House's August Recess (VIDEO)

GOP Rep Wants To Cancel Congress' Big Break

Rep. Scott Rigell (R-Va.) thinks it's "not wise" for Congress to go on August recess while "we are in a serious, serious financial condition."

"There is this belief that this bumpy, painful path that we’re on is the new normal -- that it is acceptable and inevitable. They are neither acceptable nor inevitable, and I reject the premise," Rigell told CQ Roll Call Friday.

Rigell took to the House floor to chastise House leaders for thinking August recess is "calcified in tradition" and unchangeable.

“If that’s our basic operating premise, then we’re done,” Rigell said.

The House will take the entire month of August off, per that tradition. House leadership currently has just 9 work days penciled in for September.
