Lauren Graham Talks Differences Between 'Parenthood' And 'Gilmore Girls' (VIDEO)

'Parenthood' Vs. 'Gilmore Girls'

Before she was known for playing the troubled Sarah Braverman on "Parenthood," Lauren Graham played Rory Gilmore's (Alexis Bledel) mother and best friend on "Gilmore Girls."

While on "Piers Morgan Live" last week
, Graham chatted with guest host Matthew Perry -- who she knows very well, considering she guest starred on his short-lived show "Go On" last year and the two dated for a period of time -- and the subject of the differences between the two shows came up."

"The world of 'Gilmore Girls' was very musical and precise, and the world of 'Parenthood' is more ... it's about a family, and they want it sound messy and overlap, and they shoot it in a way that we can do that," Graham explained in the video above. "It's still written very beautifully, but I kind of like them both. I think when you're doing one you crave the other. But I've really enjoyed the freedom on 'Parenthood' to improvise. It's been really fun."

Although Graham may be having a blast, her character Sarah has had her fair share of romantic turmoil over the course of the series. She spent the latter half of Season 4 torn between her fiance Mark (Jason Ritter) and her grumpy-but-lovable boss Hank (Ray Romano).

And it looks like her romantic entanglements won't be slowing down anytime soon: Yet another love interest could be making his way into Season 5 when "Drop Dead Diva" alum Josh Stamberg appears as Carl, described as "a charming and fun new addition in Sarah's building" in at least five episodes of the upcoming season.

"Parenthood" returns for Season 5 on Thursday, September 26 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
