Sophia Bush On Cory Monteith's Death: It Was 'More Emotional' Because He Tried To Get Help (VIDEO)

Sophia Bush On The Hardest Part Of Cory Monteith's Death

Cory Monteith's untimely death was especially gut-wrenching for friends and family who had taken comfort in the fact that he'd recently sought help with his addiction issues, actress Sophia Bush told HuffPost Live on July 29.

During an interview about Bush's hosting duties for VH1's Do Something Awards, host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani asked the former "One Tree Hill" star about Monteith, whom the Do Something Awards honored last year. Bush said that despite Monteith's known struggles with substance abuse, his death was a complete shock.

"I don't know how to phrase it because you don't want to say you're expecting that from anyone, but sadly I think there are some people who we watch as they sort of unravel, and if something like that were to happen, you'd be sad but not necessarily shocked," Bush said. "You'd just be so sad that they never got help."

But that wasn't the case for Monteith, who had just been to rehab in March.

"It's, I think, more emotional for the people who knew and loved him because he was working toward that," she said. "He had just gone to get help."
