Is Chronic Kidney Disease Being Overdiagnosed?


Expanded criteria for chronic kidney disease have labeled too many people as sick, researchers argued.

Since the Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative changed criteria for the condition in 2002, more than one in eight American adults (about 14%) have been meeting the threshold for chronic kidney disease, whereas one U.S. study suggested a prevalence of just 1.7% with prior definitions.
