In the season finale of of "The Mindy Project," Mindy (Mindy Kaling) and Danny (Chris Messina) shared an almost-kiss moment that left viewers wondering what the future of the couple -- who had at one point seemed like the next Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) and Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) -- held.

Three months later, Kaling is finally opening up about what could happen between Mindy and Danny in Season 2.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen with the two of them,” Kaling told Entertainment Weekly. “I know people think I love romantic comedies and I’d want them to end up together. Truthfully, they’re such different types of characters. As they are now, I can’t see them having a very functional relationship.”

Messina has stayed vague on the subject of Danny and Mindy, but he did say he always feels honored to be compared to "30 Rock's" Jack and Liz.

"I love when they compare it to that -- '30 Rock' is amazing! If Danny and Mindy were to hook up soon, I guess my fear would be that it couldn't go anywhere from there. The idea of stretching it out over a few seasons or so might give it more mileage," he told The Huffington Post. "I do like that comparison, though. I always feel honored to be in the same sentence as [Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin]."

Season 2 of "The Mindy Project," which premieres on Fox in September, will see a crop of exciting guest stars including James Franco, Adam Pally, and Kris Humphries.
