Oprah Comments On Lindsay Lohan's Recovery, Says She Will Offer Advice

Oprah Comments On Lindsay Lohan's Sobriety

A little more than a week has passed since Lindsay Lohan left rehab, and Oprah Winfrey says the troubled starlet believes she will move ahead with her recovery.

Winfrey interviewed Lohan for the OWN Network's "Oprah's Next Chapter." It was the first sit-down Lohan has given since completing her 90 days of court-ordered rehabilitation. Lohan also inked a deal for an eight-part documentary series with the network which will give viewers an intimate look at her post-rehab life.

"All I can say about it is this: I believe that she believes that she is ready to move forward in her life," Winfrey told "Today" show host Al Roker about Lohan's sobriety. "We'll see.

"I've heard a lot of things about me mentoring her," she continued. "I will be involved in the production of it [the docu-series], and I will offer my advice and council to her if she is willing to receive it. When I finished the interview, I gave her one of my favorite books ... 'The Untethered Soul.' And I've texted her a couple times since then. I'm anxious to see whether or not this young woman, who is a really, really fine actress, will be able to allow us into her life and let us see the trajectory of trying to put the pieces back together."

The TV mogul explained that when "The Oprah Show" was syndicated she was overwhelmed about life inside the fishbowl, but decided to "rely on people who've been before me."

For instance, Lohan canceled a trip to Europe because the 59-year-old advised against it. Winfrey told "Good Morning America" she expressed her concerns about the trip, which Lohan had already paid for, because "it’s very hard to go to Capri and not have a Bellini.” Eventually, the actress backed out.

“I believe that she believes that she is now ready,” Winfrey told ABC. “She admitted that there had been other times when she was pretending to be ready and not quite sure and sometimes resentful that she was being, you know, put in the position where she had to go to rehab. I think this is the first time that I could see that she feels like it really benefited her.”

Lohan's interview is set air Aug. 18 on the OWN Network.
