Another actor has been added to the list of possible contenders to play Bruce Wayne in "Man of Steel 2," the recently announced Batman-Superman crossover movie that has genre fans in a tizzy.
According to the U.K. tabloid The Daily Express, "Pirates of the Caribbean" star Orlando Bloom is Warner Bros.' top choice for the part. The paper cited a "senior source" at the studio as saying that Bloom is the "odds-on [favorite] to get the part even before our first casting call." HuffPost Entertainment contacted Bloom's publicists to verify the validity of the paper's claim; this post will be updated if and when they respond.
If the rumor proves true, Bloom would go head-to-head with Henry Cavill, who played Superman in this year's "Man of Steel" and will reprise the role for at least two more Justice League of America movies. Bloom's potential casting comes after Christian Bale confirmed he will not return to his "Dark Knight" role.
Bloom's in good company, as "Man of Steel 2" has churned up the rumor mill but good since it was announced at Comic-Con in July. Other names tossed around for the Batman gig include "Teen Wolf" star Tyler Hoechlin, Armie Hammer (who is "not actually a big fan of superhero films"), Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and, naturally, Ryan Gosling.
