"Star Trek" fans attending the Creation Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas last weekend made one thing abundantly clear: they hated "Star Trek Into Darkness."
As reported by Badass Digest editor Devin Faraci, "Star Trek Into Darkness" finished 13th out of the 12 official "Star Trek" films produced since 1979's "Star Trek: The Motion Picture." (The discrepancy is because "Galaxy Quest," a parody of "Star Trek" culture, was eligible for the fan voting, finishing seventh on the list.)
"'Star Trek Into Darkness' was met with boos when it was mentioned, and one guy took the mic to say these reboots shouldn't even be considered for a list of 'Star Trek' movies," Faraci wrote, while also noting that 2009's "Star Trek" finished sixth on the list.
Despite the fan outrage at the "Star Trek" convention, J.J. Abrams' film was a hit with general audiences. "Star Trek Into Darkness" grossed $226 million in North America (less than the $257 million that Abrams' 2009 film earned), and an additional $225 million from international territories.
It was a rough weekend for Abrams properties. Not only were "Star Trek" fans booing "Into Darkness," but "Star Wars" fans at the Disney D23 expo were unhappy that Abrams failed to reveal anything about "Episode VII," the next film on his schedule.
