Tammy Baldwin, U.S. Senator, AOL Makers Interview Talks Sexual Identity In Congress (VIDEO)

United States Senator Tammy Baldwin initially realized what she could aspire to while watching Geraldine Ferraro accept the Democratic vice presidential nomination--a first for women. Since, Baldwin has been a trailblazer in her own own right as a woman and openly gay politician.

Tammy Baldwin was elected to the U.S. Senate in November 2012, becoming the first openly gay U.S. Senator and first female Senator from Wisconsin. A Smith College alumni, her public service career began in 1986 at the age of 24 when she was elected to the Dane County Board of Supervisors, representing Madison's downtown area.
