Why Women Are Ambivalent About Ambition

A quick personal story. Recently, someone invited me to speak at their TEDx event. "Who, me?" I thought. I waved them off with a polite, slightly embarrassed "no, what could I possibly have to say in a TEDx Talk?", before I could stop myself. You see it's very easy for us to be ambitious for others. I coach, admonish, prod, (okay sometimes even harass) women leaders to set bolder goals for themselves, to dream bigger, to see into their potential like I do. But I must admit it's very hard for many of us to admit ambition within ourselves.
